Mohajerani: Iran Ready to Negotiate Nuclear and Sanctions Issues
WANA (Jan 07) – In today’s press briefing, Iranian Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani emphasized that Iran’s foreign policy, based on the guidance of the Supreme Leader, is centered around dignity, wisdom, and expediency. She stated, “We are ready to negotiate with global powers on nuclear and sanctions issues, but the U.S. abandoned the JCPOA. We have repeatedly demonstrated our goodwill.”
FATF Approval Process Continues Under Review by Expediency Council
Responding to a question about the ongoing FATF (Financial Action Task Force) approval process in Iran’s Expediency Council, Mohajerani explained that Iran had already implemented 40 out of the 42 FATF agreements, with only the CFT (Combating the Financing of Terrorism) and Palermo conventions pending ratification. These are currently under review by the Expediency Council with the Supreme Leader’s direction.
She added, “We hope this process will benefit the Iranian people, as joining FATF could facilitate investments in the country.” While acknowledging that Iran is already implementing anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing measures, she emphasized the importance of professional oversight and national interests.

Regarding the impact of FATF on currency rates, Mohajerani acknowledged the challenges posed by sanctions, stating, “The Iranian people, particularly industrialists and everyone living in the country, feel the effects of sanctions.” However, she assured that negotiations to lift the sanctions will be progressing with no delays, per Iran’s Supreme Leader’s instructions. She noted, “We cannot afford to halt negotiations on FATF, as even relations with friendly countries would be affected.”
Hijab and Modesty Law
Mohajerani indicated no immediate plans to enforce the hijab and modesty law. “Institutions must address issues related to personal choices, and the law has already been delayed twice. While the law is important, some provisions could have social consequences,” she stated, adding, “Iranian women have always maintained their dignity, and at present, the hijab law is not a priority.”
Detained Italian Journalist’s Case
In response to a question about the detained Italian journalist in Iran, Mohajerani expressed hope that the issue would be resolved quickly. She emphasized that it was not a retaliatory matter and that diplomatic efforts are ongoing to address the situation swiftly.

We are consulting experts in fields like engineering, sociology, and economics to ensure the best possible outcome,” she said, adding that this issue is not an immediate priority.
